The government is planning the creation of a central data store of patient’s medical records (from the past 10 years) from all GP practices in England next month. Anonymised patient records will move to a central NHS Digital database from 1 July, and this can then be shared with third parties for national research and planning purposes. You can read more about this here.
The system is set up so you are automatically opted in – if you would prefer your medical data not to be included, you need to fill in a Type 1 opt-out form and deliver it to your GP surgery by 23 June 2021. For convenience, the form is available to download here.
