Postcards from lockdown – voices of young people

Postcards from lockdown – voices of young people

Are the voices of children and young people being heard in the current crisis? We would love to hear what children and young people think and also how you are feeling. Be part of history and maybe even change it by helping older people understand your feelings. Send Sea Mills 100 a postcard with your thoughts and feelings during the current situation. Tell older people what YOU think. These will be displayed around Sea Mills and Coombe Dingle for people to read, including the Sea Mills phone box museum, community noticeboards, and anywhere else we can get access too. They…

Marking VE Day 75th Anniversary

Marking VE Day 75th Anniversary

Whilst many plans for marking the 75th Anniversary of VE Day have had to be cancelled due to the lockdown, @SeaMills100 is tweeting a series of short wartime stories and photos from Sea Mills and Coombe Dingle every day in the lead up to the VE Day 75th anniversary. The tweets complement the war stories webpage recently published by Sea Mills 100 to mark the 75 years since the end of World War Two and 75 years of peacetime. Well worth a visit to get an insight into our neighbourhood from back then. Thank you Sea Mills 100 for putting…

The Plan gives us a collective voice so we can have a greater influence in decision-making to ensure we get the best for our community.   For now, it is only available as a digital download, but printed copies will be shared at our next Community…

Window Wanderland

Window Wanderland

Sea Mills and Coombe Dingle were lit up on 29 February and 1 March 2020 as part of a wonderful Window Wanderland trail. Local residents designed their own imaginative window installations for people to stroll around the area and enjoy a free after-dark Art Gallery.  This is an annual event and we hope that even more people will take part next year. New community noticeboards

New community noticeboards

Funding was recently secured from Bristol City Council to install three new community noticeboards in our area. One is by the Library, one on the Square in Sea Mills and the third one is about to be relocated by the shops on Westbury Lane. Further funding has been applied for for another two noticeboards – one by Sea Mills Primary School and another in Coombe Dingle – to give wider coverage across the area. The responses to our Community Plan Survey last year identified that local residents would like more information on what is going on in our area –…

Tree of the Year

Tree of the Year

Addison’s Oak in Sea Mills was nominated for the Woodland Trust’s Tree of the Year 2019. Many thanks to everyone who voted for our Oak… unfortunately, the tree didn’t win but did come in at a very respectable fourth place. For this, Sea Mills 100 won £500, which will be spent on an event to celebrate the tree and all the amazing things it does for our environment. Watch this space for more news about this event…
